My mom in pictures...

Instagram

Ok, so time, and time again, I have mocked, preached to, condemned and ultimately given up on my mother's skills in taking pictures. The one I have posted today, though is one of the few artistic, clear, upload-able photos she has taken. I uploaded it to Instagram where I feel photos just get more beautiful .

Before this pic softened me, though, I was just   s o   m a d   at her because of the quality of most of the photo's she took...

  Most.

  I gave her a look...

 O_o

So today, hopefully to avoid my giving her looks, and to develop a better relationship with her, here's some basic things I like to remember before taking pictures. I'm no pro photographer myself, and it's not like we own a high-quality mega pixel camera, but I just want to share this... with Mom specifically:

  1. The closer, the better.
Get as close to your subject as possible. It's not thrilling to see a grainy photo, so for those of us who have to make do with what we have, I strongly advise you to come as close as possible to the next pretty flower, friend with a statue, or dancer onstage you want to capture and share :)

2. Flash and Backlight.
I'm not a fan of flashing camera lights. Although they do put light on the subject, it is not always necessary or flattering. Flash often makes skin look oily, people pale, mirrors distracting, and is most often banned in theaters :(

Ever since I read about it, I've always been conscious about backlight. Backlight is what causes your subjects to get dark when there appears to be enough light in your surroundings. This is because of the position of your subject and/or your light-source. Unless you are attempting a silhouette effect, make sure the light of the subject you are photographing isn't coming from behind it.

3. Blurry Images.
My hands shake a lot. I read somewhere, that if you have a problem taking clear pics, you should either try putting your elbows on a table while taking photos, or standing with your feet slightly apart for better balance. Also, some cameras take time to focus on a subject. Know your camera and don't click the shutter until the images on screen [for digicams and phones] are clear. Wait for the camera to process whats in front of it before telling it to remember a scene...

So these are probably the most basic tips for taking basic pics I hope, Mom, that it will help...

Sorry for being so impatient with this photography thing... and thanks for trying :)

Shakespeare Workshop :)

Whew! Finally figured out while all my pics disappeared. Don't delete pics from Google +! I'm sorry if other posts havn't been edited yet. It takes a lot of time, you see :) I also changed the photos of a lot of the posts because I couldn't find or remember the original pics that were in them :( You might wanna check them out for that :)

So anyway, I'm joining the Hip Hop Shakespeare Workshop in Manila. I'm leaving for the airport around lunchtime. By the time your reading this, I'll probably already be on the plane ^_^

I hope it's a good workshop. I read in the outline that the participants will be asked to compose a song or poem at the end of it. I'm nervous for that part... I hope they'll consider an original choreography to one of Shakespeare's Sonnets :)

Just finished reading King Lear yesterday. It is tragic, I mean, although the "bad guys" all die in the end, everyone you care for while reading the book die too! Only the young guys live. But because their loved ones were taken away from them, their present view of life is
"... we that are young/ Shall never see so much nor live so long"
I don't want to end my post on a sad note so I'll just mention that I hope to buy new ballet shoes in Thats D' Pointe dance shop and that Mum wants to visit the museums ^_^

Pretty Pictures

ummm... I had another dream last night O.o This time it wasn't too nightmarish. I dreamed that I was taking a ballet class. Yes! I was dancing. I kept waiting for the pain in my back to suddenly strike, but it didn't!!! I was so happy! Also, after the class, when we were all in the dressing room of Locsin's, All my classmates had sweets. And I ate a lot of it. I woke up with a soar throat and an aching ear :( Going to the doctor for that later on....

Girl at a Clavier (me and sisters' music blog) is going really well ^_^ We have already posted some videos and I hope you guys can check it out... Thanks!

Anyway to get to the main pointe of the post (hahaha 'pointe' you get? hehehe... ok, corny) Seeing many pretty ballet pics feeds inspiration wonders :) Thanks to Brian Mengini and The Ballerina Project, inspiration has a lot to feed on :D

I was so thrilled with the email I got by Brian M. from The Ballet Bag that I re-tweeted the post :) please

Sigh, Ballet pics really make you wanna dance... especially when they have shades of pink in them! I know it's a really cliche ballet color but it just adds to the effect! And who can deny that Ballet and pink (or white) were made for each other? My main source is my Tumblr dashboard ^_^ I transferred most of what I downloaded to my phone, though, because my laptop is running out of memory :( #USB
